Pros

  • The first pro of Ecommerce is that you can attract a larger market. Ecommerce allows you to reach people all over the world rather than a specific location like brick and mortar stores.Customers can make purchases anywhere and anytime because your business usually does not have operating hours.
  • People love ecommerce because of its easiest and convenience. They can buy products from anywhere they are at anytime without going in a store and looking for what they want and standing in lines and dealing with people.
  • Ecommerce retailers can keep an eye out for consumers buying habits. They can track what products gets the highest and lowest amount of sales making it easier to do business. You can also get your customers to become impulse buyers by running ads that appeal to their interest, and emotions.
  • Running an ecommerce business had become very easy and much more affordable to set up and maintain. Business owners spend less money on tv commercials and billboard ads to promote their product. Physical retail stores have to pay thousands in maintenance and rent when running a business.

Cons

  • The first con of Ecommerce is the credit/debit card fraud. Credit/Debit card fraud is the intention of wrongfully deceiving someone that is intended to result in financial or personal gain. Scammers sometimes pose as online seller to gain access to your credit or debit card information.
  • Weak cyber security is an issue with ecommerce. Cyber security is the process of protecting networks, websites, programs, and date from potential threat. From May 2017 to June 29, 2017, Equifax which is one of the largest credit bureaus in the U.S experienced a huge cyberattack that exposed the names, addresses, birthdays, card numbers, email addresses and more of over 147.9 million people.
  • Another disadvantage of e commerce is late delivery. When people order offline they are never completely sure when their package will arrive. The average delivery time for a package is 3-7 business days this is much longer than going to the store and picking up what you want. Packages may also be in bad shape. Something could have happened to the your package on the way to your home.
  • Website crash issues. When sites are down the entire service won't be available and you'll have to wait minutes and sometimes hours until the site is restored. This can cause people to go to website that operate more efficiently and you could lose customers.
  • Consumer trust is another drawback of Ecommerce. When a business is just starting off people have a hard time trusting their services. It may take months and even years for a person to trust your company especially if there are bad reviews.
